The SLAs are available to grade 3 teachers in all school authorities and are administered at the teacher’s discretion. Are teachers who administer the SLA required to administer all four components (Digital Questions and Performance Tasks for both Literacy and Numeracy)? Teachers may administer any or all of the SLA components. Can school authorities direct the use of SLAs?

Minister Eggen has been clear that the Grade 3 SLA will be available to teachers as a tool to use at their discretion. Alberta Education is working closely with the Alberta Teachers’ Association, College of Alberta School Superintendents, Alberta School Boards Association, and other stakeholder organizations on a broad review of Assurance in the education system.
